PHINIUS GAGE - THE FEELING SOMETHING'S WRONG
ALBUM REVIEW
FROM www.44CALIBER.CO.UK

One of the things that can trip up your average, well-meaning punk band is a hard-boiled determination to be significantly punker than thou. Thus, the UK punk scene houses scores of bands that, well, all sound the same.

It's almost unspeakably refreshing, then, when a young punk band shows a determined willingness to experiment and bring new ideas to the table. Brighton-based Phinius Gage are such a band, and it's the efficacious use of their collective imagination that makes 'The Feeling Something's Wrong' such an awesome journey.

Blending shouty melodic punk with emo and hardcore twists, 'Got A Way With Words, Got Away With Murder' and first single 'Fire's Burning' sound positively anthemic, mixing up dynamics and offering monumental choruses. 'The Sieve And The Sand' exposes the band's emo leanings, but this isn't emo of the crybaby variety. Instead, Phinius Gage sound like Thursday shot through with grainy punk spirit and doused in violent intentions. Best of all, 'If You're Listening To This Then I'm Dead' lines up the band's competition and promptly shoots the whole lot of 'em down in flames, setting the new standard with ruthless precision.

Make no mistake; Phinius Gage possess layers, and understand that punk rock should make you feel both exhilarated and inspired. Repeated listens to this album see it expand and grow to offer much more than many modern punk bands seem capable of, allowing you to continue exploring it's depths for play after play after play. This is a must-own, simple as that.
